WHERE did America get its name from. We, as proud American’s, should know the following off by heart. I’m watching a documentary called “America, the Story of Us!”. I”m blown away by what I don’t know. Humbled by what I did know and have forgotten. God was the hero of the beginning of our great Nation. His words led our forefathers. His wisdom guided them. I am sorrowed by how far we have come and how much we have taken for granted without giving Him the continued credit for it all. I, though, have new vigor within me, illuminated with the fact that He is the same today, yesterday, tomorrow and forever! In God I do trust.
America is named after Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian explorer who set forth the then revolutionary concept that the lands that Christopher Columbus sailed to in 1492 were part of a separate continent. A map created in 1507 by Martin Waldseemüller was the first to depict this new continent with the name “America,” a Latinized version of “Amerigo.”
